Results / St Mary's Loch Regatta St Mary's Loch - 24/08/2002

It was nearly a clean sweep for reigning RS200 Scottish Champ Graeme Henry at St Marys Loch Regatta on 24/25th August for the 6th event of the Scottish RS200 Series . However Kirsty & Sandy McSeveney had other ideas in the only Sunday race by taking line honours ahead of Henry /Redpath in a dying F1 . However this wasn't enough to stop Henry /Redpath clinching the weekend with the near perfect score of 1,1,2 . Numbers were boosted to 16 boats with 6 visitors from the South sensibly cashing in on the Bank Holiday to enjoy the beautiful Borders countryside . Race 1 started in a shifty F2 with Henry /Redpath establishing a commanding lead early on which they held to the line. Winsford Flash visitors Paul & Sharon Plested in the first outing in their new RS200 were chasing closely in second and managed to maintain this position to the finish . The McSeveney sisters were 3rd and Richard Evans and borrowed crew Stuart 4th . Race 2 developed much the same way but this time in a fading breeze and race officer John Robertson soon had to shorten the course finishing the fleet on the downwind leg .The usual suspects of Henry /Redpath were 1st, P & S Plesteds 2nd but other local sailors Katie Masterson and Fi Foulkes 3rd this time and Gavin & Nicholas Marshall making maximum use of a temporary filling breeze to make a late charge past others less fortunate to take 4th . Sunday started with low cloud and little wind , but the fleet were set off on a windward/ leeward course this time and soon the pack were chasing Henry/Redpath and the Plesteds who by now were settling in to the new boat . Unfortunately the breeze failed completely and the S flag was broken out on the committee boat . With little or no wind the final windward leg became a battle of wits and patience as the fleet slowly ghosted to the finish with places changing agonisingly slowly . This time however the McSeveney girls had found that wee bit extra speed and popped over the line ahead of Henry/Redpath . It was several minutes later when Richard Evans drifted across the line followed closely by Douglas & Kirsty Hamilton . This win puts Graeme Henry & Shona Redpath 1 point ahead of Katie Masterson & Fi Foulkes in the overall series so its all to sail for in the final event at Loch Tummel in September.
