RS200 South East Areas Series at Middle Nene Sailing Club

4 races were held on Sunday May 17th in a wind that increased in strength and variability during the day.  In the first race Andrew and Jill Peters quickly established a lead and were never challenged.  In race two Mike and Lynne established an early but narrow lead which they held for a number of laps before being overtaken by the Peters who went on to win.  The Restalls were 3rd.

After lunch the wind increased significantly and swung round to the South West enabling a longer windward leeward course to be set.  This benefited the heavier team of Mark Hatsel and Ron Ashman who stormed off into an early lead.  The Peters caught up over the course of the race and briefly took the lead however Hatsel finished first, Peters second and Chapman 3rd.  Peters had now won the meeting however competition for second was heating up and lead to the most interesting race of the day.  Again Hatsel held the early lead however Chapman was determined not to let him get away and a close battle was fought with the Restalls in 3rd.  The heat of the battle consumed Hatsel and Chapman until one capsized and the other erroneously did turns for hitting a mark (allowed in 200 racing).  This opened the door for the Restalls who went on to win the race and finish second overall.
