Results / RS300 Racing Circuit Prestwick SC - 16/08/2009

Twelve competitors, including three welcome visitors from the south, arrived at Prestwick on 15th and 16th August for RS300 Training followed by the 2009 Scottish Championships.
Everybody enjoyed Saturdays two training sessions under the guidance of ex-UK Champion Ian Baillie. In challenging conditions boat handling skills were honed, and the on the water sessions were supplemented by on-shore debriefing and excellent videos sessions. During the evening curry and quiz (won by a team of Scots hindered by a drunken American) we all hoped that the tips we had picked up would be put to good use in the Scottish Championships the following day.
However Sunday started with winds in excess of 30 knots, and we all waited. Just at the time Race Officer Paul Gilmore has decided was “make or break” the wind dropped a little, and the decision was made to go for it. Seven brave competitors made their way to the start, but the conditions were pretty brutal with big wind, and even bigger waves.
Baillie practiced what he preached and lead the way in all three races, although he was pushed hard, particularly in race one by Neil Beveridge from the home club. Beveridge and John Wilson enjoyed a close tussle in the other races, and other competitors Jeff Marksz from Milton Keynes and Tom Moore from North Wales showed great speed at times, but consistency in the challenging conditions was very difficult.
Ian Baillie claimed the Scottish Championship for the 5th time, and John Wilson won the Scottish Travellers Series.
