Update from Steve Bolland - UK RS Southern Championships HISC 21/22 June

RS300 Southerns

We’re off to Hayling Island on the south coast this weekend for the Southern Champs and a big get-together with the other RS Classes. Forecast is looking benign and with temperatures in the 20s both days we’ll be expecting a nice sea breeze. Is there any better way to spend your weekend? Certainly beats mowing the lawn and DIY.

12 300s have entered so far with 4 local boats entered + Martin Harrison from across the water on the Isle of Wight. There’s the normal posse coming down from Aldenham and the rest of us from places such as Sheffield, Somerset, South Birmingham and Zambia.

The racing promises to be tight throughout the fleet with 3 of the top 4 and 7 of the top 10 from the 2013 Nationals already entered. That will increase if Harry McVicar has finished partying following his graduation from Sussex Uni. Would also be great to see any others from the south coast who are think of entering – Christchurch? Shoreham?

We’ll be sharing a course with the 700s (9 entries) and 800s (14 entries) and a start with the 100s (16 entries) so it shouldn’t be too crowded, + we’ll be able to show the 100s how to really sail upwind!

First race Saturday is 1pm, briefing at 11am. Food and live band in the evening + the normal après-sail mickey-taking.

If you’re thinking of coming, please enter by Friday at the latest as there will unfortunately be no entries on the day (too many boats/people/classes to administer).
