Results / Open Aldenham SC - 16/06/2002
Aldenham SC ran an open meeting for RS300s on 16th June, in conjunction
with a Laser open. Eight boats turned out in perfect conditions of
sunshine and a Force 3-4 breeze. Race one started and Jamie Mawson took
an early lead, but was threatened for the first two laps by Steve Cook
and Scott Butler. The leading boats became stuck in a hole, with Mawson
able to pull clear and eventually win from Cook, with David Lapes taking
third. Barry Steel from the home club proved that the RS300 is not
reserved for youngsters by taking the lead in Race 2, although Mawson
eventually caught and passed him to take a second win. Steel was able to
hang on to second place, with Cook in third. Race 3 started in a little
more breeze, and it was Cook who took the lead with Mawson close behind.
The rest of the race saw a fierce match race between Mawson and Cook with
Mawson eventually getting through on the last lap to win. Another solid
performance from Steel in third place meant he took third place overall.
The day was declared a resounding success, demonstrating that the RS300
can provide fast, tactical racing for sailors of all ages.
