Results / Gul RS Solent Grand Slam Stokes Bay - 22/06/2002
Ten RS300s gathered at Stokes Bay SC for the third event in the Gul-
sponsored Grand Slam circuit. Sailors were greeted by a Force 4-5 breeze
and a fine display of sailing by Steve Cockerill, making a welcome return
to the class. The first race saw Matt Sargent leading at the first mark,
with Cockerill in hot pursuit. Cockerill broke through on the downwind
legs, to take the race from Sargent with Joel Burchett in third place.
The remaining races that day finished with Cockerill and Sargent first
and second again, with Phil Davies taking third in both races. Sunday
dawned with a more reasonable Force 2-3, which suited Davies better than
the strong winds of the previous day. Cockerill was unable to sail due to
family commitments, so Davies was able to take the race from Sargent,
with Burchett again in third. Race 5 saw a reversal of Race 4, with
Sargent taking the win with Davies second and Jamie Mawson third. Davies
led the last race from the outset, with Sargent again in second and
Mawson third. Despite Cockerill only sailing half of the races, he still
managed to take fourth overall.
