The Harbour Chandlers RS300 Racing Circuit Event at Bosham SC

Saturday was windy. Very, very windy. Sphincters were twitching as the more adventurous ventured down Bosham Creek to the race area, occasionally being blown flat by massive gusts coming over Cobnor Point.  The wind in the race area was stronger but steadier with gusts up to 35kts.

Dave Acres showed his class by capsizing least to win the first race around the trapezoidal course, from Mike Bees who had come all the way from Brightlingsea to endure this. There were four finishers and five broken boats by the end of the first race. The lucky four started another race but stronger gusts and some spectacular pitchpoles led to all retiring. Further racing was abandoned for the day.

Early on Sunday morning nobody looked too perky, despite the promising 12 to 15 kt breeze, possibly as a result of dinner and too much beer in the Anchor Bleu.

In race 3, Dave Acres showed fine boatspeed to sail away up the first beat and was never headed, while Luke South and Richard Kennedy squabbled for second place around the triangular course. In the fourth, Acres got stuffed into irons on the line and could only claw back to fourth leaving South to sail away from the pack. Everybody got their act together for the last race. The fleet was on the line and still bunched at the first mark. The reaches were fast but unspectacular with most of the place changing taking place on the next beat as the tide turned and the wind backed. Acres won again from South and Kennedy.

The event was sponsored by Harbour Chandlers of Emsworth with additional prizes by Rooster Sailing.
