RS300 Magic Marine Grand Prix Event Number Five
8 RS300s turned up for the first day of a 2 day 2 event combined open meeting: the Northern Double Header. There were 3 local boats plus 2 EU members (Scotland).
The day’s light-ish winds in a nearly favourable direction looked to benefit the lighter helms in the fleet. But local knowledge is a big advantage so there would be some spectacularly close racing.
The first race’s hotly contested start line saw Tim Keen take a early tack onto port in not quite enough room in front of Matt Jenkins. This resulted in Keen taking an early penalty turn. Steve Sallis went on to capitalise and walk away with the win.
Race 2 saw a close race throughout between Keen and Jenkins, closely followed by Sallis and Alistair McLaughlin.
Race 3 was the closest race of the day. After 45 mins of racing the top 4 were covered. In the last 5 seconds the victory went to Matt Jenkins.
