The RS300 Scottish championship was held at Largo
Bay on the 26th and 27th June, with very wet and
wild conditions on the Saturday contrasting with
light and sunny on Sunday. Three races were held
each day with Saturdays being a test of survival.
Ian Baillie and Eddie Griffiths put on an impressive
display in the 25 knot wind and big steep waves,
with only Eddie having a quick capsize in the third
race. Ian won all three races but Eddie kept very
close in the first two. Sunday was so different,
the clouds and rain were gone and the wind barely
got over 10 knots. Ian and Eddie continued to
battle, with Ian having an advantage upwind and
Eddie pulling back some distance on the reaches. Ian
won the first two races but a 720 on the start line
of the final race gave the advantage to Eddie and
although Ian closed up the distance Eddie was
determined not to let him past and won the final
race. Largo Bay put on an excellent regatta as usual and
I'm very glad I wasn't on that committee boat on Saturday.
