Results / Scottish Series Bassenthwaite SC - 14/05/2005
There were 8 RS300s at the first round of the RS300 Scottish Series,
which was held at Bassenthwaite Sailing Club over the weekend of the
14/15th May. There was plenty of sun and a perfect breeze for Saturdays
racing and with the RS300s sailing as part of the Fast Handicap fleet
there was tight racing between themselves and the other boats in the
fleet.
Top RS300 in both races was Ian Baillie, who just had too much speed for
the others to match. The remaining places were much closer with Mark
Henman, John Riley, Gavin Marshall and Rory Yardley swapping positions
throughout.
Ian Baillie.
After a delay to allow the wind to fill in, the racing continued on
Sunday and Ian Davis led the 300s at the first mark. But Baillie's better
speed pulled him through, with Martin Davies and Yardley second and
third.
Henman led the final race before Baillie passed him to win again, Yardley
scored another third and Maureen Ayre sailed into a well deserved fourth.
It was great to see the newcomers trying out the RS300 circuit and
showing plenty of potential. I'm sure we will hear more from them and
look forward to seeing them again.
