The final round of the RS300 Fat Face Travellers Series arrived at Bartley Sailing Club on Sunday 21st of August. The growing RS300 fleet were met with light variable winds and bright sunshine. The first race start sequence, commenced with a number of competitors becalmed up wind of the start line. Fortunately for John Carron of Milton Keynes, the wind filled in just enough for him to reach the pin end with seconds to spare. Carron led by the windward mark, closely followed by Greg Barton (Glossop SC) and Paul Thompson (Combs SC). On the downwind leg Carron was put under increasing pressure from Barton until an elegant roll to windward put him in the drink. The pressure off Carron, he extended his lead to win the first race, with Barton recovering 2nd place just before the finish from Thompson. Race 2 followed a similar format, Carron, Barton and Thompson braking away from the rest of the fleet. With Carron gaining a comfortable lead whilst Barton and Thompson closely fought it out for 2nd place, eventually Thompson making use of his superior downwind speed to clinch second. Race 3 had the best wind of the day, with the race officer setting a beat the length of the reservoir. The first lap gave the tightest racing so far with the lead alternating between Thompson, Barton and Carron closely followed by the rest of the fleet. Carron stamped his authority on the second windward leg to break away, leaving Barton to desperately fight off Thompson in third. Carron went on to secure 1st with Thompson using his downwind speed to pass Barton just before the finish.
