The penultimate round of the Scottish RS300 Travellers Series was held at Chanonry Sailing Club over the weekend of the 6th/7th August and saw a close battle between local sailor Ben Yeats and Dalgety Bays Ian Baillie. Both days presented similar conditions with a moderate offshore northerly wind giving plenty of shifts and although cool it was bright and sunny. The key for the weekend was a clean start then catch the first shift. We were starting as part of the Fast Handicap fleet so the line was crowded and gave everyones boat handling a good workout. The first race was won by Baillie from Yeats but the positions were reversed in race 2 with Yeats fighting hard to stay ahead and win. Baillie came out on top again in the final race of the day. The conditions were identical for the racing on Sunday and Baillie continued with a win in race 4 from Yeats, with Andrew Grant showing better speed. Baillie stalled on the start line of race 5 after collecting some weed on his rudder some excuse, which allowed Yeats to gain the lead and battle hard to stay there. It was down to the last race, which Yeats had to win but Baillie caught him with a leebow on the start line, then kept a tight cover on him to lead to the finish. Thanks to Chanonry for putting on another excellent regatta. Once again the Dolphins failed to show. Ive seen the Loch Ness Monster more often.
