Results / Scottish Series East Lothian SC - 02/06/2007

The third event of the RS300 Scottish Series took place over the weekend of the 2nd and 3rd of June, with some great sailing taking place in the brisk easterlies that blew in on both days. This brought some superb waves rolling in from the North Sea, which combined with the close reaches to provide some of the best sailing of the season.

Ian Baillie set the scene for the weekend with a convincing win in race 1, showing great speed downwind at times and giving the Fireballs something to think about. John Wilson was second and although not up to his usual speed, was able to stay ahead of Gavin Marshall.

Wilson was quick off the start line in the next race as Baillie started to struggle with a disintegrating mainsheet. He was able to hang onto Wilson's tail and took advantage as Wilson suffered a capsize near the finish. But the wind then disappeared and it was desperately close at the finish with Baillie winning by just a couple of boat lengths.

With Baillie onshore mending his boat, Wilson won race 3 but not before fending off a strong challenge from local sailor John Stamp, who was preferring the lighter wind of this race.

Sunday began with almost no wind but after a short delay the easterly began to build again. Local knowledge prevailed with Stamp first to the mark, with Wilson then Baillie in pursuit. Slowly the both reeled in Stamp, with Baillie then getting past Wilson to hold the lead to the finish.

As the wind built Baillie and Wilson continued to hold an advantage over the others, but there was little to separate them again. Baillie's extra consistency was the major difference and he was able to post another win, with Marshall third this time.

The final race continued the same pattern with Baillie winning again from Wilson and Marshall.
